Sure, when you’re on Keto you’ve got to learn to live without sugar and carbs. But that does not mean you have to live without flavor.
For one thing, many people who embark on the Keto lifestyle recalibrate their taste buds and learn anew how delicious many foods are naturally.
Cooking with spices is another tool that will help you stick with Keto for the long haul. After all, nobody wants bland, sad food. Spices add life to your meals!
This recipe calls for cumin, curry powder, and garlic powder, so I’ll dive into each of those.
A popular spice, cumin is used in many cuisines, from Mexican to Mediterranean.
It’s strong, and a bit bitter. It is sometimes confused with caraway, but cumin tastes hotter and is lighter in appearance.
It tends to be used in savory dishes. Cumin is a staple ingredient in most curry powder.
The name “curry powder” is somewhat confusing, as it is really a blend of many spices rather than a singular item that has been ground down.
Recipes can vary, but many curry powders contain cumin, turmeric, fenugreek, coriander, and chili peppers.
Ginger, cinnamon, clove, garlic, fennel seed, nutmeg, curry leaf, and black pepper may also be included.
Contrary to popular belief, curry powder is not an Indian invention – the Brits claimed this creation. A similar blend called garam masala has roots in India, which may be where some of the confusion comes from.
Since curry recipes vary, the taste fluctuates depending on the ingredients. Some are spicier, while others are milder, depending on which peppers (if any) are used.
The combination of sweet and savory makes for an intriguing flavor.
Exactly what it sounds like, this spice takes the magic of garlic and bottles it. The advantage of garlic powder for me is that you don’t have to handle it. Therefore your hands, clothes, and hair don’t assume the smell.
It’s the same as the stuff that comes in cloves, only it’s been dehydrated for convenience. If you’ve got a food dehydrator, you can make your own!
Garlic powder is friendly to most palates; just make sure you have mint on hand for when you’re done eating!

Spice things up with this Keto cauliflower chicken curry.
- Add the coconut oil into a saucepan and brown the diced chicken. Sprinkle cumin powder and salt over the chicken in the saucepan.
- Add cauliflower, broth, and coconut cream to a blender and blend well.
- Pour into the saucepan with the chicken and season with the curry powder and garlic powder. Stir and then simmer for approx. 50 minutes until the chicken pieces are tender.
- Season with additional salt and pepper, if needed.
